We are immensely proud to share the news that Dr Papa Abdoulaye Seck, Director General of the Africa Rice Center (AfricaRice), has been nominated by the President of Senegal as the new Minister of Agriculture and Rural Equipment.
He will end his appointment at AfricaRice on 12 September 2013 after seven years of outstanding leadership. His vision and passionate commitment to the mission and goals of CGIAR and AfricaRice have transformed the Center and taken it to new levels of excellence.
Dr Seck is leaving behind him a well-managed, financially sound and scientifically-vibrant organization. We are sure that he will bring the same dedication and visionary management style to his new mission and we offer him warm felicitations and best wishes for the future.
In keeping with the special intergovernmental status of AfricaRice and the guidelines laid down in its Constitution, the Board – which is now meeting in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire – will focus on managing an effective and efficient recruitment process for selecting Dr Seck’s successor and will take immediate action to ensure interim leadership. The name of the interim Director General will be communicated shortly.

Chair, AfricaRice Board of Trustees
I join the AfricaRIce Board in this celebration. The nomination of Dr. Seck is a great honor for Seck and also for AfricaRice. Seck did a marvelous job at AfricaRIce. When he took over the leadership of the institute it was in serious trouble. Seck put in place a clear and effective strategy and the results have been dramatic. I fully expect that he will deliver even more for his beloved country.
